Our First Week

I'm sorry it has has been so long since I have posted. I have thought about posting often, but between recovering from our day of traveling, getting used to new sleeping arrangements, setting new boundaries and just general settling in it just hasn't reached the top of the priority list until now. The girls are outside gardening with my mom and a cool breeze is blowing through the house. I finally took the time to upload pictures and video clips. So here we go...
The first weekend we were here my cousin Stephen and his precious wife Rachel, or "somebody"and "somebody else," as Jenna called them came to visit from Dallas. It was so much fun to catch up with them. I've never really had a chance to sit down and have a heart to heart with Rachel, so that was a special treat.
My parents took Jenna, Stephen and Rachel on a tour of the local sites. Sophie and I stayed home so that she could nap.

Stephen gave the girls some fishing tips. :)

The girls spend as much time as possible outside, digging in the dirt and playing in the water. They go through two or three outfits a day. When they are inside one of the things they like to do is dance. My mom bought them some new outfits, which are a little, so they are perfect for dress us right now. Here is a video of them dancing.

Today we set out on our first adventure. We went to the Long Beach Aquarium and enjoyed it along with the hundreds of school children who were there for their end of the year field trip. Being the organized mom that I am I packed a sack lunch, hats, sunblock, sippie cups, extra diapers, extra clothes etc. It wasn't until we got to the aquarium that I realized that I had only grabbed the food and not the diaper bag, with everything else in it. Ugg... Amazingly enough we survived the day with one borrowed diaper and sun kissed skin.

After the aquarium we bought some ice cream bars and went for a walk around the bay. The girls got rainbow sherbet push up pops (a childhood favorite and mine). It took them an hour to eat them and they got most of it in their mouths. The rest ended up on their faces and clothes which made it easier for all of the dirt to stick. With no baby wipes to clean them up they were dirty, but happy when we got home.

My mom bought the girls mermaids at the aquarium gift shop. They were a big hit. Jenna slept in the stroller as we walked around and Sophie slept on the way home, so they were both rested and ready to go by the time we got home.

Yesterday I decided to attempt potty training again. I went to a second hand store and bought a little potty. Jenna had quite a bit of success yesterday and this morning. Mostly because she would just sit on it for a long time, but it was still progress. This afternoon I asked her to sit down and try. After a few minutes she said that she wanted to go outside with Lala, who was working on her flowerbeds. I told her she could, but instead of just pulling up her pants and running outside, she took the potty with her! It was pretty cute. There's nothings like potty training in the great outdoors. I'm sure my parents' neighbors got a kick out of it.
