Welcome Rachel Abigail!

Exactly one week past her due date, Rachel Abigail has arrived! We were scheduled for induction on the 11th anyway, but labor started on its own at 5:30 that morning, which was a huge answer to prayer. By the time we left for the hospital my contractions were coming every 3 minutes. We were admitted at 7:30 and by 8:30 I had an epidural. Unfortunately it didn't take very well, but it at least took the edge off. At 9:00 I had dilated to 4cm and the doctor broke my water. By 11:00 I was completely dilated. Rachel made her entrance at 12:15 pm, with 4 pushes in about 10 minutes. She was a surprisingly 9 lbs. 3 oz. and 21 1/2 inches long. I realized that it isn't very nice to post a newborns very first picture. They change so much in the first 24 hours. Still, it is amazing to capture their first moments in the world. Can you believe those cheeks?
My mom was able to drop the girls off at a friend's house after breakfast, come to the hospital, and be home before naps. It was wonderful to have her there. My OB was wonderful. He lit up when Rachel was born, as if it were his own grandchild. He requested we take this picture and made me promise to bring him a copy and bring Rachel with me to my check up. It was evident that he really loves his job. We were also blessing with an amazing nurse, Beth. She noticed that Rachel was favoring her right arm, which lead to the diagnosis of a broken right clavicle. This sometimes happens with big babies. The injury is a blessing because it allowed her to come out on her own. If it hadn't of happened the doctor could have had to take extreme measures to get her out, including breaking my pelvis. But, because it broke on its own none of us even knew there was a problem. God is so amazing how he has designed our bodies. Her collar bone will heal in 2-4 weeks and as long as we are careful with her it isn't painful. The nurses rigged a little sling with newborn hospital hats to keeps her arm in place. Proud Daddy
Going home! We were released about 26 hours after being admitted. Jenna and Sophie were not allowed to come to the hospital because of the swine flu, so we were eager to get home. My mom bought Rachel this adorable coming home outfit. This will be the only time she will get to wear it though. It barely fit her. :)

Thanks everyone for your prayers and well wishes.
